“Hey! Hey! I like it!”
I’m sitting on my back deck with a three-quarter size guitar, plunking on a slow blue dirge. It’s the last warm days of twenty-twelve and the rooms of my childhood home are empty.
I hear a call from the neighbor’s yard.
Why do you want to play guitar?
No one had ever asked before.
Because it let’s me share what my soul really says. It’s just another language to express that deep stuff inside. That stuff we don’t have words for yet.
She nods in understanding.
The curious lass goes on to explain…
She doesn’t play guitar.
Or the violin. Or the piano.
Or the tuba.
I feel a little sad about that, yet there’s
a hope.
One day she may pick up a guitar or a violin… or a tuba.
And, even when she hits a note out of
tune
she’ll keep on tooting.
